The Reset You Didn't Choose by Robert Nichols
The first book

Fifty honest reflections. No forced gratitude. No manufactured closure.

A reflection companion for the ordinary days after life changes the plan — job loss, illness, a broken relationship, a relocation, or a future that simply did not arrive. Each of the fifty truths is a two-page spread: read the reflection, then use the facing page to write if that helps.

Who this book is for

You do not need to read it in order.

Start where today’s need is clearest. The book includes a one-page finder so you can go straight to the truths that match how you feel right now — numb, blaming yourself, rushed by other people, afraid to move, or finally ready to define what comes next.

This book is for you if…

Life changed without your permission — a layoff, a breakup, an illness, a relocation, a plan that simply did not happen — and you are tired of being told it was a blessing in disguise.

This book is not for you if…

You want seven steps to a transformed life by next month, or a book that promises the hard part is already over. That is not what this is.

How to use it

Each truth is a two-page spread — a short reflection, then a facing page to write on. Skip any prompt that does not fit today. Return in 30 and 90 days; the book has pages built for that.

Five truths, to start

A few pages from inside the book.

  1. 01
Nobody Consulted You, and That Is Part of the Hurt. “Agency now does not rewrite the absence of agency then.” You do not need to feel excited about an outcome you would not have selected.
  2. 04
Some Parts Ended. What They Changed in You Remains. “An ending can be permanent without making everything before it meaningless.”
  3. 11
You Are Not Starting From Nothing. “Loss deserves a list of its own. So does what remains.”
  4. 37
You Do Not Owe Anyone a Public Comeback. “Privacy is not shame, and silence is not failure.”
  5. 50
You Can Begin Before You Feel Ready. “You do not need the whole route to take one honest first step.”

What does today feel like?

Why I wrote this book

Robert Nichols

“I know what it feels like when life changes before you have language for it.” A U.S. Army veteran, former competitive middle-distance runner, and digital marketing professional, Robert has lived through frequent relocations, learning differences, deployments, and a sudden job loss that forced him to rebuild income from nothing but day-labor work, plasma donations, and small websites. None of it was a gift he needed — what helped was learning to separate what happened from what remained available. That pattern became this book.
